KUCHING: The region’s largest bowling centre, Megalanes Emart Batu Kawah, featuring 42-glossy lanes side by side is up and ready to host tenpin bowling events in the coming 18th Sukma.

State secretary Tan Sri Datuk Amar Morshidi Abdul Ghani, who is also Sukma organising committee chairman, graced the soft-launching of the just completed facility located at the roof-top of Emart Batu Kawah on Friday.

Among those present were Amateur Tenpin Bowling Association of Sarawak (Abas) president Sunny Si, Sukma secretariat coordinator Affandi Keli, the Ministry of Social Development permanent secretary Kameri Affandi, Sarawak Sports Corporation chief executive officer Dr Ong Kong Swee and Sukma XVIII bowling head coach Jackson Ting.

Morshidi revealed that the project was collaboration between the state government and the private sector.

“It goes to show that such partnership can produce a fruitful and positive outcome,” he said while extending his appreciation towards Megalanes East director Jackie Ting.

With Sukma only 68 days away, Morshidi called on the state bowlers to aim for all the

11 gold medals at stake in the games by practising harder and getting familiar with the new facility.

“Anything is possible if you put efforts into it coupled with a roaring spirit, will and determination for excellence and success and not forgetting you have a strong support from the whole of Sarawak,” he said.

Morshidi urged the Sarawak bowling team to give all they can to exceed Abas’ target of five gold medals and assured they will have the support.

“Strive for 11 gold medals so that Sarawak can be the pulse and adrenaline of bowling,” he reiterated.

The volunteer team shouted their battle cry to cheer for the Sarawak team throughout the ceremony before Moshidi bowled as symbolic to soft-open the Megalanes Emart Batu Kawah.
