MEMBAKUT: The request from the KadazanDusun, Murut and Sino (KDMS) people for the construction of a Native Court building and a commercial centre in the district will be considered.

Assistant Minister to the Chief Minister Datuk Arifin Arif said he is confident Kimanis member of parliament Datuk Seri Anifah Aman who is very close to the people, would give their request due consideration and approval.

“The location of the Native Court building will also be built at a site proposed by the KDMS people here,” he said after delivering Anifah’s speech at the launch of the Membakut district-level Pesta Kaamatan celebration here on Saturday.

Anifah, who is Foreign Affairs Minister, in his speech reminded Sabahans from various races to use the annual Pesta Kaamatan celebrations as a platform to enhance their unity and spirit of camaraderie.

He said the history of Pesta Kaamatan itself is closely linked to the value of sacrifice and love among the people.

Anifah also cited the importance of maintaining the unity that has existed among the various ethnic groups and races so that the government could ensure a smooth and effective implementation of the people-centric development agenda in the State.

Touching on another issue, Arifin reminded the people not to be easily influenced by rumours and slander being propagated through social media by irresponsible quarters.

“The best way to resolve any issue that arises that affect the people is through direct discussion and deliberation through the proper channel within the ruling Barisan Nasional (BN),” he said.

About 7,000 people attended the launching ceremony, the highlights of which were the Sugandoi (singing) competition and the Unduk Ngadau pageant contest.
