Sabah engineers ready for Pan Borneo project

KOTA KINABALU: The Association of Consulting Engineers Malaysia (ACEM) Sabah Branch has formulated the National Building Code for Seismic Design and the request for local participation of the Pan Borneo Highway (PBH) mega project.

Its out-going chairman, Paul Yap Kok Wai, said ACEM Sabah had contributed in the establishment of Sabah Building Ordinance since 2000 and would continue to assist the state government to expedite the enactment.

We are willing to help provide the technical terms in Bahasa Malaysia to the Attorney General for the finalisation of the ordinance, he said at ACEM Sabah 23rd annual general meeting on Saturday.

Paul also reported that a list of ACEM Sabah panel firms was handed over to PBH PDP for the appointment of consulting engineer.

PBH PDP gave a positive response to our list and we hope all of our members can benefit from the PBH project, he said.

Ir Amirul Hisham Ismail was elected ACEM Sabah chairman at the annual general meeting.

The other committee members elected were Ir Tan Kok Jyh, Ir Chia Khuin Fung, Ir Lee Tet Fon, Ir Benny Soong, Ir Wah Kheng Haw, Ir Joe Primus, Ir Amarjit Singh, Ir Chin Tat Hing, Ir Kenny Lo and Ir Brandon Galiman.

Amirul thanked and expressed his gratitude to all members and urged them to remain supportive to the association in making it stronger for a brighter future of the consulting engineering industry as a whole.

The AGM was officiated by Mayor Datuk Yeo Boon Hai who in his speech said the Kota Kinabalu City Hall (DBKK) would work closely with the consulting engineers and he welcomed inputs from ACEM Sabah Branch to collaborate with DBKK in the city planning and development.

The AGM was attended by 48 of 134 registered members which was a record high since its inception in 1993.
