KUCHING: The first-ever Kuching City Warrior Challenge (KCWC) saw Sunny Jong Shi Xian and Haiyanti Ibrahim declared as the champions of the men’s and women’s Warrior Challenge categories.

Both champions each bagged a cash prize of RM5,000 and a trophy.

Meanwhile, John Lonhienne finished in second place and Khairul Azmin Sodiwal took third place in the men’s category. In the Women’s category, Shean Ying Sim and Tan Ai Pong were second and third respectively.

Those finishing as first and second runners-up each brought home RM3,000 and RM2,000, a trophy and a medal.

The event was graced by Datuk Bandar of Kuching North City Commission (DBKU) Datuk Abang Abdul Wahap Abang Julai, who was representing Chief Minister Datuk Patinggi Tan Sri Adenan Satem.

The extreme sports held at Padang Merdeka here yesterday and organised by Shocker Tribe Sdn Bhd attracted more than 2,000 local and foreign participants

Starting as early as 4.30am, the event saw participants pushing themselves to the limit. It was divided into the Warrior Challenge and Fun Challenge categories.

Participants of the Warrior Challenge must go through the 5km run dotted with 10 commando-style obstacles along the route.

Those going for the Fun category, however, could decide whether or not to undergo these challenges – namely ‘Iceberg’, ‘Gorilla Swinger’, ‘Slug Crawler’, ‘Three Hundred’, ‘Barricade’, ‘Alter Bridge’, ‘West Swingers’, ‘Tri-Climber’, ‘Lumber Jack’ and ‘Final Tower’.
