KAPIT: Technology College Sarawak student Shalley Bybara, 21, from Rumah Ragai in Baleh beat nine others to win the Kumang Gawai Dayak SDNU Kapit 2016 title here on Saturday.
She went home with RM1,500 cash, a crown, sash, trophy and a hamper.
Second place went to clerk Assemalaya Bandang, also 21 years old. She received RM1,000 cash, a sash, trophy and a hamper. Politeknik Kuching student Patricia Ganing, 19, from Rumah Kilau in Baleh, was placed third. This Dilpoma in Accountancy student was rewarded with RM800 cash, a sash, trophy and a hamper.
Those placed fourth to tenth places each received consolation prizes of RM500 cash and a hamper.
School leaver Katerina Sambai Munggo from Genturong Sekaban in Sungai Kara was adjudged Miss Favourite while Sindong Sayat @ Sait, 18, from Taman Jonathan Sabai in Jalan Selirik won the Best Costume.
They each received a trophy and RM200 cash. On hand to give away the prizes to the winners at the pre Gawai Dayak dinner organised by Sarawak Dayak National Union (SDNU) Kapit was Datin Angelina Celestine Ujang, wife of Deputy Minister for Rural Development Datuk Alexander NantaLinggi.
The panel of judges was headed by Nancy Kuyor, wife of Bukit Goram assemblyman Jefferson Jamit Unyat. She was assisted by Kapit Resident Joseph Belayong Punan and Bukit Mabong District Officer Douglas Pungga.
