KUCHING: Every piece of art delivers to an individual a meaning that depends on how one sees it.

“Everyone has his/her own interpretation and understanding when looking at an art piece and that is fine, because for me that is what makes art beautiful,” said local artist Amy Amin.

On May 18, Amy attended a sharing session ‘Art Talk’ at Sarawak Museum Department, Kuching to talk about her life as an artist and muralist.

Known for her illustrations of cats, Amy, who is also a member of a youth art movement 9Lives has been painting murals since 2014. Among her work that can be spotted in Kuching are ‘The Leaping Feline’ at Lebuh Carpenter and the mural at Jalan Budaya executed with her group members 9Lives.

Also joining her in the ‘Art Talk’ was another member of 9Lives and local contemporary artist Ashly Nandong whose art centres around his cultural heritage in which he incorporates traditional symbols with contemporary designs.

Organised by final year art management students from Unimas as part of their assignment, the talk aims to educate, motivate and inspire others to fulfill their dreams and career in the art industry.

According to project leader Nur Yazmine Ahmad Zaidi, the talk was the first organised by the students held outside the campus to bridge the gap between artists and the community for better understanding of the art scene.

The talk was also attended by lecturer Rahah Hassan from Unimas’ Faculty of Applied and Creative Art (Faca).
