KUCHING: Sarawak secured their second win in the Super League after a hard fought 3-2 win over Perak at Negeri Stadium, here Wednesday night, and with that victory confirmed a slot in the Malaysia Cup.

The team of interim coach David Yusop opened the scoring in the 10th minute through Makeche Ndumba. Perak equalised in the 25th minute from a goal by Mohamad Fazrul Hazli.

After the breather, Gilmar Jose Da Silva Filho put Sarawak in front when he headed in a cross in the 48th minute.

Elias Fernandes De Oliveira equalised for Perak from the penalty spot in the 70th minute.

Gilmar sealed the 3-2 victory for Sarawak with a header in the 80th minute.

Post-match, coach David Usop said he was happy with the win, saying that team spirit and fitness has improved after two weeks of intensive training.

Sarawak will play Perak in the second round on May 21.

David replaced Datuk K Rajagobal whose contract was terminated by the FA of Sarawak following a string of poor results.

Meanwhile, Felda United FC (FUFC) maintained their top position in the Super League after a narrow 2-1 win over Penang at Penang City Stadium Wednesday night.

The ninth victory by ‘The Fighters’ squad saw them sharing 27 points with defending champions Johor Darul Ta’zim (JDT) but they are on top of the league through goal difference.

JDT, who were still fresh from lifting the FA Cup last Saturday, maintained an excellent record on home ground after beating Pahang FC 3-0 in the match at Stadium Tan Sri Hassan Yunos, Larkin. — Bernama
