KOTA KINABALU: A 26-year-old local man was charged with six counts of criminal breach of trust (CBT) involving RM16,410.20 at the Sessions Court here yesterday.

Megat Abdul Rahman Kairul Anuar denied the charges framed under Section 408 of the Penal Code when it was read to him before Sessions Court judge Noor Hafizah Mohd Salim.

Megat was alleged to have committed CBT between April 26 and May 6 this year, in his capacity as a dispatcher for FM Auto House Sdn Bhd situated along Jalan Penampang.

The charges framed under Section 408 of the Penal code are punishable with imprisonment for a term of up to 14 years, with whipping and a fine, for each charge.

Deputy public prosecutor Dinesh Raja objected to bail considering the nature of the offence, but Megat implored the court to take into account his family who are far from him. He also pleaded for the court to consider the fact that he is just about to get married and is now jobless.

The judge granted Megat RM5,000 bail in two local sureties for each charge, and set June 20 this year for pre-trial case management. Megat was also ordered to report to the nearest police station once every week.
