PUTRAJAYA: The Domestic Trade, Cooperatives and Consumerism Ministry (KPDNKK) through the ‘Friends of KPDNKK’ will create more fair price shops to lessen the people’s burden from the rising cost of living. Its minister Datuk Seri Hamzah Zainuddin said ‘Friends of KPDNKK’, a non-governmental organisation made up of local residents, would be going to the ground to monitor business premises.

He said they would set up a committee in each parliamentary constituency and be the eyes and ears of KPDNKK while conducting checks to ensure the goods and services offered were of quality, and at fair prices.

“‘Friends of KPDNKK’ will evaluate and identify such business outlets. Those which meet the conditions and criteria will receive the Fair Price Shop logo from the ministry,” he told a news conference after launching the new logo, here, yesterday.

Hamzah said there were 1,238 business premises nationwide, including restaurants and sundry outlets that were identified as fair price shops and the list would be published in the print media.

He said they were chosen as fair price shops based on certain criteria like fair price of products offered, cleanliness, quality of service, the atmosphere, and customers’ comfort.

Hamzah said business outlets which failed to maintain their status, would have the status and Fair Price Shop logo withdrawn, while the best performers would be rewarded.

“‘Friends of KPDNKK’ will work closely with us to make sure those shops maintain the prices. This approach shows that consumers are given the power to ensure that the business outlets in their areas are fair and ethical for the benefit of all, he said. — Bernama
