KUANTAN: Work to clear the wreckage of a Royal Malaysian Air Force Aermacchi MB339CM jet that crashed in Nenasi, Pekan, Pahang on May 17, has been completed.

Two RMAF lorries and machinery deployed to clear the wreckage and debris was seen leaving the crash site at 5pm after arriving at the site as early as 8am yesterday. Another RMAF lorry carrying the main body of the aircraft left the site at about 7pm and headed to the RMAF Base in Kuantan. Meanwhile, the owner of the paddy field where the aircraft crashed, Shahrulnizam Romli, 35, said the RMAF personnel had instructed him to not enter the site of the crash for a week.

“We have not started planting yet so I have no problem with the request,” he said.

According to an RMAF statement on the day of the crash, the jet, based at the Kuantan air base, experienced technical problems while carrying out training flight manoeuvres at 12.54pm on Tuesday. Both pilots on board ejected to safety although one of the pilots, Lt Mohd Hakimi Hairi fractured his right leg while Major Nazrul Hafiz Zaimi escaped without any injury. Mohd Hakimi is currently warded at the Tengku Ampuan Afzan Hospital in Kuantan (HTAA). — Bernama
