KUCHING: Former Bukit Saban assemblyman and Welfare Assistant Minister Robert Lawson Chuat and newly- minted Solidarity Assistant Minister Rosey Yunus are exemplary assistant ministers in the old Ministry of Welfare, Women and Family Development.

Minister of Welfare, Woman and Community Wellbeing Datuk Fatimah Abdullah said both of them had given their best when serving in the old ministry and that their contribution would be long remembered.

“Their experiences and professionalism in dealing with the ministry matters have brought ministry to another level in its administration to deal with the welfare and development of people who need assistance.

“There were very independent assistant ministers, they were good listeners and both could execute their duties without much interference from me,” she added.

Fatimah said this at an appreciation dinner for the two former assistant ministers and the ministry staff who would be moving to different departments at Hilton Kuching Thursday.

Soft-spoken and a quiet-character, Lawson was an asset to the ministry. He was a reasonable and rational co-worker and it was a joy to have him as her assistant, she added.

Fatimah, who wished Lawson all the best, said she understood the sacrifices  Lawson had made so that what had been planned for Sarawak could be carried out smoothly, and for the unity of the people now and in the future.

As for Rosey, Fatimah said she was a hardworking person who wanted to excel all the time.

What ever she had learned here would make her a better person in her new post.

Lawson and Rosey earlier said they were both honoured to have worked and contributed to the state through the ministry and also for having Fatimah as their minister.

They admired her for her ability to handle the ministry and thanked her for what she had done to ensure that the people’s welfare was well taken care of.

Assistant Minister for Welfare and Community Wellbeing Dr Abdul Rahman Ismail, Assistant Minister for Early Childhood Education and Family Development Sharifah Hasidah Syeed Aman Ghazali, the ministry’s permanent secretary Megir Gumbek and Women and Family Department director Noriah Ahmad were among those who attended the dinner.
