KUCHING: The 26th Nanyang Wushu ‘Kung-Fu’ festival will be held at Crown Towers here from today (8.30am to 6pm) until May 22.

NWFS instructor-in-chief Prof Dato Sri Dr Song Swee Hee said the festival, which is a series of kungfu competitions, will feature more than 510 wushu exponents competing in events such as kung-fu patterns, cudgel display, broadsword display and ‘sanshou’ (free-sparring).

“It is divided into Senior and Junior divisions, with each divided into male and female groups,” he said in a statement yesterday.

Song, who is also NWFS chairman, will be officiating at the championship — organised by Nanyang Wushu Federation of Sarawak (NWFS) — tomorrow while the closing and prize presentation is expected to be graced by Assistant Minister of Public Health Datuk Dr Jerip Susil on Sunday at 4pm.

Meanwhile, NWFS is currently recruiting new trainees for its wushu/kungfu programmes. Enrolment is at federation’s headquarters at 352, Lorong 3, Kali Garden, Jalan Resak here on May 23 (Mon) and May 25 (Wed) from 7.15pm to 8.45pm. For enquiries call at 019-8866879 or 016-8866879.
