MIRI: It was like a movie script when burglars plunged a house in Piasau into darkness before breaking in on Saturday night.

A suspicious neighbour spotted the blackout at around 9pm and immediately called up the house owner.

It was learnt that the house had been left vacant by the owner for two months.

A mobile police vehicle (MPV) was also dispatched to the scene for inspection.

However, they arrived too late as the burglars had fled the scene.

Amongst items reported missing were RM20 in coins and three handphones.

After a police report was lodged, personnel dusted the scene yesterday morning for fingerprints.

Further investigation revealed that the burglars had gained entry to the house via a window.

Meanwhile, in a separate incident, a female school teacher lodged a police report on Saturday night that her car windscreen was smashed in a theft incident.

According to the victim, she had parked her car at Jalan Parry around 7.15pm. Upon returning to her car at 8.50pm, she found the windscreen smashed and among several items missing was her bag with RM1,200.

Police are investigating the incident.
