BINTULU: Members of the public are urged to play active role and be the eyes and ears of the local authority by reporting any indiscriminate dumping of rubbish being committed in their respective housing estates.

In making the appeal, Bintulu Development Authority (BDA) general manager Rodziah Morshidi wanted more public cooperation in combating illegal dumping of rubbish here.

She said BDA was recently informed by the SPDP People’s Service Centre here of indiscriminate dumping near the Chevrolet Service Centre at Jalan Sultan Iskandar and a team was immediately dispatched to the scene to clean up the area.

“It is such a despicable act and BDA would love to nab the culprits if there are photographs taken of the people committing the act,” she said. Rodziah however questioned the residents who did not even notice the illegal dumping being done in their neighbourhood.

“Or was it being done by the very people who called up SPDP office to request BDA to clear it up for them?” she questioned.

She said BDA had stretched its resources to keep the town clean but with many people still very irresponsible our efforts to create greater environmental awareness would be meaningless.

For any complaints or suggestion the public can call these hotline numbers – 337700/ 332277 or SMS hotline at 013-8362277 which operates 24 hours. BDA will not disclose the identity of the informers.
