KUCHING: After a long absence from the Malaysian music scene, Kota Kinabalu-born power house singer Azharina Azhar is making a comeback with a new single titled ‘Sekian Terima Kasih’ (Thank You).

When met at Kedey Kamek Restaurant near Metrocity Matang here recently, Azharina or better known as Nina said all this while she was enjoying her time behind the lens as a producer.

“I am grateful that I am still in the music industry entering my sixteenth year now. Previously, people just knew me as a singer but actually I am also a music producer.

“I have my own businesses, being behind the camera lens as a producer for four companies and one club namely Kelab Artis 1 Malaysia Sabah (KA1MS). I set up the club in 2014 and act as its president,” she said.

This year, she is re-entering the local music scene with her new single, ‘Sekian Terima Kasih’.

“The main reason for my re-entry is to fulfil the requests from my supporters. In 2015, I released a single in conjunction with my fifteenth year in the music industry and it was the last masterpiece of the late Adnan Abu Hassan.

“This year, I am working with CQ Music, Azharina Entertainment and Razman Razmi to produce a ‘new look’ for my single ‘Sekian Terima Kasih’. I need to move forward from my comfort zone of melancholic music,” she said.

Nina regards her new single as something which is more comfortable for her today with relaxing tunes produced by DJ Fuzz.

“I guess this song is the easiest song that I have ever recorded compared to my previous songs that were mostly of big vocal range and melodramatic. I am already familiar with such genre and this song is more relaxing for me.”

Nina said her collaboration with CQ Music, Azharina Entertainment and Razman Razmi, was to produce music video for the new single and they had chosen Kuching as their filming location.

“As for the storyline of the music video for ‘Sekian Terima Kasih’, we prefer to think of something that is outside of the box. We want something else that has nothing to do with the song to make it as something that people can talk about which they either love or hate. It is of distinctive quality whereby this song depicts a woman who has everything in her life. Nevertheless, her boyfriend has left her for another woman and she is tired of it.

“We want this song as a promotional material, thus promoting Kuching as a tourist destination and most importantly the fashion. This is why I chose Razman Razmi who is famous for his extraordinary avant-garde designs,” she said of the single that was recorded three months ago with the music video filmed at various locations here recently, directed by Edwin Lay.

Azharina added that to sustain oneself in the industry, artists had to be themselves and always remember that life was like a wheel.

“It is important for artists to recognise that they have such an amazing talent. A real talented singer must also have a powerful voice that can be improved over time and they must remember to not become someone who is just filling the empty spaces in the industry,” she added.
