SIBU: There will be two additional daily boat trips from here to the upper reaches of the Rajang River from May 28-30 in conjunction with Gawai Dayak.
Sarawak Rivers Board (SRB) assistant controller (Region II) Christopher Chan said these additional trips were for the Sibu-Kapit and Sibu-Song routes.
He said on normal days, there were a total of 18 trips for these routes.
On safety measures, he said boat operators had been reminded to comply with safety rules and regulations and to ensure their boats were in top condition.
As for their Gawai operation, he said there would be five canopies in front of Sibu Express Boat Terminal and three at Kapit Wharf along Khoo Peng Loong Road.
Chan said SRB was working closely with the police, Marine Department, Sibu Municipal Council (SMC) and Civil Defence Department (JPAM) with the hope for an incident-free celebration.
The police would assist at the terminal on safety aspects, like keeping pickpockets at bay.
“SRB will conduct joint river operations with other enforcement agencies.”
