Marine police inspecting the 1,200 packs of cooking oil that were seized.

SANDAKAN: The Marine Police here seized 1,200 packs of cooking oil believed to be on the way to be smuggled out to the Philippines in Hai Soon Lopaj Jetty here, yesterday.

District 4 Marine Police team commander, Assistant Commissioner Mohammad Madun said that his team made the discovery when inspecting a tugboat during Pensura Ops tasking.

“During the operation, the police also arrested the operator of the tugboat,” he said in a statement.

He said that the cooking oil and tugboat seized were worth RM547,600 and the case was investigated under Control of Supplies Act 1961.

Mohammad said his team was handing over the case to the Ministry of Domestic Trade, Co-operatives and Consumerism for further action to be taken.
