LIMBANG: Police here successfully detected 73 Brunei registered vehicles having outstanding summons with compound fees totalling RM14, 080 during the first day of “Operasi Saman Tertunggak Warga Asing (Brunei)” conducted yesterday in Limbang Town.

The operation held at the road fronting the Limbang Central Police station was led by head of traffic ASP Khairul Ridzuan Ahmad assisted by 16 personnel.

Limbang District Police Chief Superintendent Mohd Bukhori Saffai said during the operation, 286 vehicles were checked. A total of RM14,080 worth of compound fines from 134 summons were collected while the balance of 9,477 summons issued between 2010 and last year remained unpaid.

“The operation was conducted to round up owners of Brunei registered vehicles who have outstanding payment for their traffic offences,” he told reporters yesterday.

He added the road block was held fronting the police station, as it was the only access road for all vehicles from Limbang to South or North Brunei or vice versa.

“During the road block, all Brunei registered vehicles were checked to ascertain whether they have any outstanding traffic summons.

“Similar operations will be conducted from time to time and we hope that those with outstanding summons will speedily settle their dues to avoid interruption in their journey and legal actions taken against them,”.

Mohd Bukhori said statistics released by Bukit Aman showed that Singaporeans and Bruneians topped the list of traffic offenders with outstanding summons.
