KAPIT: The Community Based Rehabilitation Centre (PDK) Kapit has been praised for assisting special needs children here.

Bukit Goram assemblyman Jefferson Jamit Unyat thanked the management committee for their voluntary work at the centre.

“The children with special needs, they’re happy and willing to learn the art of living skills with the available services. I say thank you to your hard-working committee. Your strong spirit of voluntarism should be emulated by others in non-governmental organisations,” he said during PDK Kapit’s Pre-Gawai Dayak 2016 celebration on Wednesday.

PDK Kapit chair Moonly Tiang said the centre aims to purchase a van, which could cost up to RM90,000 this year.

“There are so many OKU (disabled) unregistered with us because of the high cost of transportation. If only we have a passenger van for the centre, probably then we can bring in more OKU to the centre, which is open daily from Monday to Friday. Then more children will benefit,” she said.

Tiang later received donations for PDK Kapit from the Kapit Chinese Chamber of Commerce (RM1,000), South Neighbourhood Committee (RM300), and Lions Club of Kapit (RM300).

The centre currently has 42 trainees.
