BETONG: A 51-year-old motorcyclist died in a road accident involving a superbike he was riding in a failed attempt to overtake at KM82, Betong-Sarikei road yesterday.

According to Betong District police chief DSP Fadhil Antum Abdullah, the accident occurred at 11.30am after the motorcyclist collided with an incoming car on the opposite lane.

“The man who was riding a BMW F800R motorcycle had a brush with a lorry driven by Ong Beng Chai, 55, earlier causing him to lose control of his machine before being rammed by a car driven by Michael Lasang, 23, from the opposite direction.

“The rider died on the spot while the lorry and car drivers escaped unhurt,” “The victim was on his way together with a high powered motorbike convoy riding from Kuching to Kota Kinabalu.

The remains were brought to Betong Hospital for an autopsy and the case is being investigated under Section 41 (1) Road Transport Act 1987.
