KUCHING: The suspect who escaped from police custody after a remand proceeding at a Magistrates’ Court on Tuesday was re-arrested yesterday.

The 39-year-old from Kampung Tabuan Melayu was previously arrested for robbing a 24-hour convenience store. Police arrested him at 10.45am yesterday from an unspecified location.

On Tuesday, two suspects fled from the courthouse after a court proceeding, They pushed two escorting policemen who were about to handcuff them.

The two policemen could not immediately chase after the two suspects as they had to look after 17 other suspects at the scene. The 19 suspects were brought to the court that day for an application of remand order when the incident happened.

Police succeeded in re-arresting the other suspect, aged 22, at Kampung Tabuan Hilir later that day. Kuching deputy police chief Supt Ernest John in confirming the case, said the suspect were now facing the prospect of a heavier sentence.
