KUCHING: Sarawak will be sending 25 young fighters to the National Youth and Inter-Schools Muaythai Championship at The Summit in Subang USJ in Selangor from June 2-4.

They include 10 from Kelab Muaythai Lundu, five from Kelab Muaythai SS Fighters, four from Muaythai Kenyalang and two each from Kelab Muaythai PS Sebiew Bintulu, Kelab Muaythai Pheonix Meranek and Persatuan Muaythai Samarahan.

The championship is organised by the Malaysian Muaythai Association in accordance with the Olympic International Council and the International Federation of Muaythai Amateurs.

Categories to be competed in are at age groups of ages 8 to 9, 12-13, 14-15 and 18-21 years old.

The Malaysian Muaythai Association said in a press release that the championship was aimed at selecting potential fighters to represent the country in international competitions.

Apart from that, they may be called up to represent Malaysia in the Muay Boran and Muay Aerobic in Bangkok, Thailand.

Priority would be given to the winners and those who are able to compete in these events.

Meanwhile, the National Muaythai Association added that all participants who are students will receive marks for their co-curriculum and the top three finishers will get additional marks.
