KUCHING: Local Government Minister Datuk Dr Sim Kui Hian is open to the idea of Sarawak having a single Barisan Nasional (BN).

According to Dr Sim, who is also Sarawak United People’s Party (SUPP) president, a single BN for the state will spell better unity among the BN elected representatives.

Speaking during his visit to the Padawan IPD in Siburan today (May 27), Dr Sim said that Sarawak should lead the way in making a move to create a single BN party as its representative.

This is the best solution to help solve the current issues going on within the state BN setup, he said.

“With a single BN party there won’t be any fight for seats among the various BN component parties in the state or fighting over who has more elected representatives. It should be called (something like) Barisan Sarawak,” he added.

This was because Sarawak could exist in a “one nation two systems” within Malaysia and the single BN party will have no problem in handling political matters for the state.

Dr Sim was answering a question by a reporter who asked him to comment on direct BN candidates fielded in the recent state election who won and applied to join Parti Pesaka Bumiputera Bersatu (PBB).

More than one direct BN candidate who won during the previous state election are believed to be interested in joining PBB.

Nine direct BN candidates won during the previous state election and should all nine join PBB, the party will get 49 out of 82 state assembly seats – meaning that PBB could form a government of its own.
