13 false police reports on MyKad loss to robbers, thieves recorded

SEPANG: Thirteen false police reports of losing MyKad to robbers and snatch thieves were recorded by Sepang police since early this year.

Sepang deputy police chief Supt Rusdi Jaafar said 12 people had been charged for making false police reports while another was still under investigation.

“After they made police reports, we investigated and found that there were no robberies or snatch thefts as claimed. They just made our job difficult and raised the crime index,” he told reporters, here yesterday.

Rusdi said false reports of losing MyKad rose drastically by 300 per cent compared to just four cases recorded during the previous year.

People who make false reports can be charged under Section 182 of Penal Code and can be jailed for up to six months or a fine of RM2,000 if convicted.

The penalty for losing MyKad is RM100 for first offender, RM300 for second offender and RM1,000 for third offender. — Bernama
