BN’s success in S’wak can ensure bigger win in Sg Besar and Kuala Kangsar — Najib

KUALA LUMPUR: Prime Minister Datuk Seri Najib Tun Razak is confident that Barisan Nasional’s rousing victory in the Sarawak election would ensure a bigger majority win in the Sungai Besar, Selangor and Kuala Kangsar, Perak by-elections on June 18.

Najib said: “We are hoping for the best, we cannot take for granted. We have to work hard, work as a team and focus on achieving the best possible result.”

Najib said the momentum of BN’s success in the Sarawak election recently will provide the impetus for the BN election machinery to excel in both the by-elections, here.

“We will take stock of the contributing factors for BN’s major success in Sarawak and see how well such preparations can be transformed into action so that it can translate into the desired results,” he said after chairing an Umno Supreme Council meeting at Menara Dato Onn yesterday.

Najib who is also the Umno president said preparations for the Kuala Kangsar and Sungai Besar by-elections was discussed at length and preparations at the respective divisions were notified.

“The BN election machinery is highly motivated to work hard to ensure BN’s victory in Sungai Besar and Kuala Kangsar,” said the Prime Minister.

Umno vice-president Datuk Seri Dr Ahmad Zahid Hamidi who is currently carrying out the duties of Umno deputy president would head BN’s election campaign for both the parliamentary seats.

Ahmad Zahid who is also the Deputy Prime Minister will be assisted by Umno vice-president Datuk Seri Hishammuddin Tun Hussein and other party leaders.

Perak Menteri Besar Datuk Seri Dr Zambry Abd Kadir who is also the Perak Umno liaison chairman was appointed the director for the Kuala Kangsar by-election while Selangor Umno liaison chairman Datuk Seri Noh Omar takes charge of the Sungai Besar by-election said Najib.

To a question, Najib said the by-elections could never be a referendum on national leadership. — Bernama

Meanwhile, asked if the status of former Umno deputy president Tan Sri Muhyiddin Yassin and former Kedah Menteri Besar Datuk Seri Mukhriz Mahathir was discussed, Najib said there was no discussion held in yesterday’s meeting. — Bernama
