SIBU: Children of Soon Hup Tadika Yakin (YMCA Kindergarten) are told to learn to be grateful to their parents and teachers for nurturing and bringing them up to be useful people.

Making the call was the kindergarten’s management board vice chairman Datuk Janet Lau when she officiated at the kindergarten’s Teachers’ Day celebration yesterday.

She said the children spent about four hours in school, from 8am to noon, to learn under their teachers.

“Your teachers teach you, discipline you and mould your character. As such, you ought to show gratitude to your teachers,” she told the children.

She added that parents also played their part in guiding and grooming the children in their upbringing.

Parents and teachers complemented each other’s efforts to make sure the children were well shaped for the future.

The celebration yesterday morning also honoured the parents.

Earlier, headmistress Teresa Lau reminded the children to always show respect to the elders.

She said children should develop a habit of being obedient to their parents.
