KOTA KINABALU: Fighting over a place to sleep landed a man in hospital after he was stabbed in the back by a woman, believed to be mentally unstable, at a horse stable in Tanjung Aru.

The incident happened when the 52-year-old victim apparently scolded the woman for sleeping on his “bed” around 3.30am on Wednesday.

Both the man and woman then started arguing over the bed which caused the latter to pull out a folded knife, about 14.5 cm long, and stabbed the man on the back.

Following a police report lodged by the victim, the police managed to arrest the suspect around 5.20am on Thursday.

“Police detained the woman the following morning at the horse stable in Tanjung Aru.

“The suspect did not resist arrest and police also seized the folded knife that was believed used by the suspect in the incident,” said city police chief ACP M. Chandra yesterday.

The victim is currently in stable condition after seeking treatment at the Queen Elizabeth Hospital.

Chandra said initial investigation believed that both the victim and suspect were friends and both were believed to be high after sniffing glue when the incident happened.

The case is being investigated under Section 324 of the Penal Code for causing injury.
