KUCHING: Local Government Minister Datuk Dr Sim Kui Hian is open to the idea of Sarawak having a single Barisan Nasional (BN) party.

According to Dr Sim, who is also Sarawak United People’s Party (SUPP) president, a single BN party for the state would mean better unity among the BN elected representatives in the state.

Speaking during his visit to Padawan District Police headquarters in Siburan Friday, he said Sarawak should lead the way in making the move to create a single BN party.

A single BN party in his opinion is the best solution to help solve the current issues within the state BN set-up.

“With a single BN party there won’t be any fight for seats among the various BN component parties in the state or fight over who has more elected representative. It should be called (something like) Barisan Sarawak,” he added.

He added that Sarawak could live in ‘a one nation two systems’ within Malaysia and a single BN party would have no problem in handling political matters for the state.

This was for the best of Sarawak’s politics, he told reporters who asked him about the direct BN candidates fielded in the recent state election who won and applied to join Parti Pesaka Bumiputera Bersatu (PBB).

Nine direct BN candidates won in the election and should they all join PBB the party will get 49 out of 82 seats which means that PBB can form a government on its own.

Padawan police chief Superintendent Choo Yin Kok, Batu Kitang assemblyman Lo Khere Chiang and SUPP Batu Kawa chairman Datuk Tan Joo Phoi were also present during Dr Sim’s visit to Siburan.
