KUCHING: Make Sarawak a place that our visitors coming from Hong Kong will want to recommend to their friends.

Federation of Kuching and Samarahan Divisions Chinese Associations Chairman Temenggong Lu Kim Yong yesterday offered the state government his congratulations on the inaugural Hong Kong Airlines flight from Hong Kong that touched down at Kuching International Airport (KIA) at 5.30am on Saturday.

“We’d like to urge our government to work closely with the private sector to let the China market know what we have here in terms of culture, destinations and eco-tourism,” he said when speaking to reporters at the blood donation campaign at Kuching Poh Ka Buddhist Temple here yesterday.

He also urged the government to help those who manage tourist attractions to improve the infrastructure of their respective destinations.

“We must make sure the people who come will tell their friends to come too.”

Following the inaugural flight, the Hong Kong Airlines’ twice-weekly Kuching-Hong Kong schedule will fall on every Wednesday and Saturday.

Sarawak Tourism Board (STB) chief executive officer Datu Ik Pahon Joyik was quoted as saying that the inaugural flight had long been anticipated, with talks and engagements with airlines dating back to the state hosted Routes Asia 2014.

Meanwhile, the blood donation drive at the Kuching Poh Ka Buddhist Temple yesterday received encouraging response from the public.

Temple treasurer Kevin Law told reporters that it was the second time over the past three years that the blood donation campaign had been held there; and the aim was to show compassion to those who needed blood.

The event was run by the Federation of Kuching and Samarahan Divisions Chinese Associations (Youth Section), Kuching Tong Kak Kuang Youths and Women’s Associations, Kuching Rover C Scouts and Thong Sen Cycle.

Representatives of Sarawak General Hospital’s mobile blood bank and Malaysian Red Crescent (MRC) Kuching Chapter were also on hand to support the drive.

Law conveyed the organisers’ thanks to all sponsors especially Lee Onn Group of Companies, Yung Kong Group, Torng Meei Import and Export Trading Co, Syarikat Kion Hoong Cooking Oil Mills Sdn Bhd, Supreme Food Supply (M) Sdn Bhd, KEK Trading (Kuching) Co Sdn Bhd, Wide Way Enterprise, Anergy Water Sdn Bhd, and Kinguan Trading & Packing Sdn Bhd.

In a simple ceremony before a luncheon, Federation of Kuching and Samarahan Divisions Chinese Associations chairman Temenggong Lu Kim Yong presented certificates of appreciation to the parties involved in the event.
