LAWAS: The proposed new Lawas Hospital is scheduled to be completed within 36 months, said Second Minister of Resource Planning and Environment Datuk Amar Awang Tengah Ali Hasan.
He said Phase 2b of the project was being retendered since earthwork and basic infrastructure had been completed.
“The Ministry of Finance has already approved RM200 million for this phase (2b) of the project that will provide better facilities and broaden the scope of benefits to the people,” he said.
Awang Tengah, who is also Bukit Sari assemblyman, said this recently when he visited the hospital here to hand over a photo-therapy equipment donated by his former classmates and schoolmates at Lawas Secondary School and Limbang Secondary School (1973-1975).
He added that the federal government had given him a written assurance that the project would be completed within 36 months after he reminded them that the project was approved by the prime minister himself during the 9th Malaysia Plan.
On the photo-therapy equipment, he said it came about when his former classmates and schoolmates decided to donate the balance of their reunion dinner funds for a charitable c
ause.
Organising committee chairman Raymond Tan said the equipment was imported from the United States of America.
Meanwhile, Awang Tengah urged the hospital staff to serve patients with a smile even though there was a lack of equipment, doctors and a proper hospital.
On another matter, he said he was reserving a site in Banting for the Lawas Polyclinic.
At the event, he announced an allocation of RM15,000 from his Minor Rural Project (MRP) funds for their sports and recreation clubs.
