KUCHING: An Indonesian man, who had a knuckleduster in his possession in a public place last week, was yesterday sentenced to five years behind bars.

Doye, 30, pleaded guilty before Magistrate Zubaidah Sharkawi, who convicted him under Section 7(1) of the Corrosiveness, Explosive Substances and Offensives Weapons Act 1958.

He admitted to having committed the offence around 8.30pm on May 23.

The court ordered the custodial sentence to run immediately after sentencing.

According to the facts of the case, a police patrol team on duty at King’s Centre, Jalan Tun Jugah spotted a group of men.

When approached, the men fled but the police managed to apprehend one individual, later identified as Doye.

During the initial body search, the knuckleduster was found in his underpants.
