SIBU: The police are hitting back at 10 selfish owners who park their cars in the central police station compound at Kampung Nyabor Road for safe keeping while they return home for Gawai celebration.

The thoughtless act has taken up parking lots for officers and public members who come to lodge reports.

The police expect these cars would occupy the parking spaces for up to a week, and since last weekend, the cars have been left there as the “balik kampung” rush began.

The police yesterday chained a metal bar each to a wheel of these cars and left a note on the wind screen, requiring the owners to see the head of the central police station ASP Herman Rakey on their return from the holidays.

The wheels of nine vehicles were chained while the tenth car was directly slapped with a summons for parking in the yellow-line parking lot reserved exclusively for a police vehicle.

“The owner of the tenth car has felt so relaxed parking his car in the police station compound that he even left the car doors unlock. He knows the thieves will not steal in the police station,” ASP Herman noted.

He said the idea of parking their car at police station began last year and they had since put up a notice at the entrance of the police station to call on public members not to take up their parking lots.

The police expect the owners of these cars to leave them at the police station for up to a week.
