KUALA LUMPUR: Datuk Seri Najib Tun Razak today sent a congratulatory message to national badminton ace Datuk Lee Chong Wei on his victory for the sixth time at the Indonesia Open, yesterday.
“Congratulations Dato’ Lee Chong Wei, Indonesia Open champion for the sixth time!” said the Prime Minister through Twitter.
Chong Wei, 34, defeated Denmark’s Jan O Jorgensen, 17-21, 21-19, 21-17 in a stiff competition at Istora Senayan, Jakarta.
With the win, Chong Wei has equaled Indonesia’s Taufik Hidayat and Ardy Wiranata’s records.
The national shuttler took the Indonesia Open title for the first time in 2007, and was champion for three consecutive years from 2009 till 2011, and again wrested the title in 2013. – Bernama
