PUTRAJAYA: The Attorney-General’s Chambers yesterday returned to the Malaysian Anti-Corruption Commission (MACC) for further action its investigation papers into the purchase of a bungalow by Penang Chief Minister Lim Guan Eng.

Attorney-General Tan Sri Mohamed Apandi Ali said in a statement the chambers wanted the MACC to probe further to complete the investigation.

He said that after studying the content of the papers, the chambers found the need for further action to complete the investigation into the case.

The chambers received the investigation papers on the purchase of the RM2.8-million bungalow in Jalan Pinhorn, Penang, from the MACC on May 26.

“The chambers has also instructed that the fresh investigation papers be handed to it soon,” he said.

On May 6, Lim and his wife Betty Chew were asked to give statements to the MACC over Lim’s purchase of the bungalow and the sale of land in Taman Manggis, Jalan Zainal Abidin, by the state government.

Tasek Gelugor MP Datuk Shabudin Yahaya had raised in the Dewan Rakyat the issue of the purchase of the bungalow at what he claimed was below market price.

Shabudin  had also alleged that the purchase of the bungalow was linked to the sale of  land  in Taman Manggis that had been originally allocated for housing for the hardcore poor. — Bernama
