KAPIT: Stallholder Noraini Abdullah has found it worthwhile to take a break from trading at the Terasang Market every fasting month as business is always better at the local Ramadan Bazaar.

Noraini, who sells kuih during normal days, has found that the annual Ramadan Bazaar will always bring in better earnings in time for Hari Raya Aidilfitri.

“During the month of Ramadan I trade here because this is created by the Kapit District Council especially for the Muslim traders. There at Terasang Market, it’s kuih only but here as you see there are great varieties because of the good sales,” she said yesterday.

“At Terasang Market, most of the customers are those vegetable vendors and housewives. Here at the Ramadan Bazaar, the customers are of all walks of life, especially civil servants. I enjoy the market because my customers are from the Kapit community – Malay, Dayak and Chinese. They’ll come to buy. So, it’s not just for breaking the fast but others they just enjoy the traditional Malay delicacies.”

Noraini also sells dates imported from Saudi Arabia priced between RM8 and RM28 depending on the grade and quality.

She is among the some 40 traders doing brisk business at the bazaar, which runs from 8am to 5pm throughout Ramadan.

Kapit District Officer Elvis Didit said the bazaar aims to enable petty traders to earn more income for Aidilfitri.

“So that they bring home some money for the celebration instead of solely depending on their salary or wages drawn at the end of the month,” he said when contacted.
