KAPIT: Residents of six longhouses along Jalan Takan-Tekalit have called on the authorities to urgently clear the roadside of thick vegetation, which is beginning to take over the road.

The affected longhouses are Rumah Sauh, Nanga Banjor; Rumah Abo and Rumah Kibong, Nanga Tekalit; as well

as Rumah Jala Ugol, Rumah Nyanggun Bundak and Rumah Pillai Lasah at Nanga Miaw.

A check on the area found that along some sections of the road, the vegetation is particularly overgrown including from the bridge at Sungai Takan until the Teluk Irun area, which may endanger road users.

Villagers also called for a 4km-stretch of gravel road from Rantau Tekuyung until Teluk Irun to be tarred.

A motorist from Rumah Abo Tekalit said the road is tar-sealed from the longhouse until the Teluk Irun area.

“As soon as we reach the Teluk Irun area until the Sungai Takan bridge, the ride is bumpy as we travel along a gravel road which during rainy days is slippery,” said the man who wished to remain unnamed.

Jalan Takan/Tekalit serves as a vital link for the six longhouses to Song.

Prior to the completion of the road, the villagers had to use river transport, which was costly and time consuming.

The road also links SMK Katibas and the Nanga Tekalit Health Clinic.
