KANGAR: Perlis Mufti Dr Mohd Asri Zainul Abidin yesterday criticised the attitude of Muslims who spend excessively on food to break their fast to the point of causing wastage.

He said Muslims should not make the month of Ramadan as a food-buying  fiesta time as this was against the true objectives of fasting as taught by Islam.

“Muslims should control their lust and desire for their favourite food and instead appreciate the holy month for its real meaning and perform more  religious obligations.”

Mohd Asri said this in his talk at a ‘Durus Ramadan’ programme organised by the Perlis Mufti Department at Tuanku Syed Putra Jamalullail Mosque, here.

He advised Muslims to plan their spending by buying food in appropriate quantities to avoid wastage.

The mufti also chided the attitude of some Muslims who love to break their fast with expensive buffets at the hotels, which could also get them carried away to the point of forgetting to pray as they were busy eating and chatting with friends.

“The month of Ramadan is a golden opportunity for Muslims to gain divine rewards for good practices. So, I hope they will act rightly and evaluate their efforts and deeds towards becoming the best believers in Islam,” he said. — Bernama
