KOTA KINABALU: Liaison secretary to the Minister of Special Tasks yesterday clarified that a viral social media post allegedly showing as many as 5,392 Indian voters in the Tanjong Kapor state constituency, as fake.

Albert Kok said the Minister of Special Tasks cum Tanjong Kapor assemblyman Datuk Teo Chee Kang had personally checked with the state director of the Election Commission, Datuk Haji Md Idrus bin Ismail, who confirmed that the figure was not true.

“It is simply incredible for Tanjong Kapor to have 5,392 voters of India origin.

“I regret that some pro opposition parties resorted to such cheap tactic calculated to paint a picture of gerrymandering so as to tarnish the image of the Election Commission and to incite hatred against the government.

“I am issuing this statement so that recipients of the above posting are not confused,” Kok said.
