KUCHING: The crowd of more than 400 people attending the recent ‘Country Night Is On’ reunion dinner were taken on a trip down memory lane by local country singers and musicians.

Held at Dayak Bidayuh National Association (DBNA) hall near Jalan Ong Tiang Swee here, the event was co-organised by several Facebook groups; namely Memories of the Past, Laughing Corner and De’ Buddies.

Among the guest artistes invited to perform mostly instrumental and slow country songs were Thomas Chia who performed Josh Turner’s ‘Your Man’ and Eddie Rabbit’s ‘The Room at the Top of the Stairs’, Mary Tiong (Wanda Jackson’s ‘Silver Threads and Golden Needles, and Pussycat’s ‘Mississippi’), Donna Lau (Olivia Newton John’s ‘Let Me Be There’), Tony Lu (Glen Campbell’s ‘The Hand that Rocks the Cradle, and George Strait’s ‘I Just Want to Dance with You’).

The night continued with performances from Tommy Sim with his rendition of Jim Reeves’ ‘I Love You Because’ and Don Williams’ ‘Some Broken Hearts Never Mend’, Allison Sim (Shania Twain’s ‘No One Needs to Know’ and Lynn Anderson’s ‘Rose Garden’), Joe Ting (Kenny Rogers’ ‘Coward of the County’, and Lobo’s ‘How Can I Tell Her’, Liz George’s Papa).

Bob ended the solo singing performances with his soulful rendition of Frank Sinatra’s ‘Fly Me to the Moon’ and John Legend’s ‘All of Me’.

To end the evening, Toman & The Robins, and Alex Ling performed several country songs.

Prior to the dinner, guests were treated to the ‘Getting to Know You’ cocktail session where they had the opportunity to mingle around with the performers and catch up with those who have been missing from the local music scene for quite some time.
