Industrial trainer shares insight with SEGi hospitality students

KUCHING: An experienced sales and marketing trainer with the Westin Hotel corporate office, Christopher Fulton, visited SEGi College Sarawak recently to share his experience with the hospitality students here.

The session was attended by students of Diploma in Hotel Management, Diploma in Tourism Management, Diploma in Culinary Arts, Diploma in Baking and Pastry Arts as well as the Bachelor of Science (Hons) in International Tourism and Hospitality Management 3+0 programme with University of Sunderland, UK.

The objective of the talk was to motivate and encourage the hospitality and tourism students to obtain international exposure so that they can enhance their career in the industry.

During the talk, Fulton stressed on the importance of grooming.

He also provided tips on how students can adequately prepare themselves for an internship interview.

He expressed his interest in working together with the hospitality academic team in SEGi College Sarawak to prepare and coach students to achieve a fulfilling career in the hospitality industry.

Meanwhile, the Programme Leader for the Bachelor of Science (Hons) in International Tourism and Hospitality Management 3+0 programme from University of Sunderland, UK, Dr James Johnson also visited SEGi College Sarawak recently to meet up with the students to understand their study challenges and concerns.

During the three-day visit, Dr Johnson also conducted training and briefings for students on how to think and write critically.

He also shared with the students on the expected quality of work by the University as it is imperative for the students to meet the university’s benchmark in order to graduate.

Year 3 students also benefited from Dr Johnson’s session through the dissertation writing workshop.

The Bachelor of Science (Hons) in International Tourism and Hospitality Management programme at SEGi is a three-year programme.

The Faculty of Hospitality also offers Diploma in Hotel Management, Diploma in Tourism Management, Diploma in Culinary Arts and Diploma in Baking and Pastry Arts.

Enrolment for the diploma and degree programmes is now open for the June 2016 intake.
