KUCHING: Sarawak’s boxers will be undergoing their final exposure-cum-training stint in Pontianak, Indonesia, commencing from June 15.

Sarawak Boxing Association president Datuk Rahman Lariwoo said this is the fourth and final training stint for the state boxers in preparation for their challenge in the Sukma XVIII boxing competition at MBKS Indoor Stadium from July 21-30.

Prior to the Indonesia stint, the boxers had trained in Kuala Lumpur and twice in Thailand.

“The 10 boxers who left for Pontianak, West Kalimantan, on Wednesday will be training together with boxers from the Indonesia Amateur Boxing Association (Pertina),” said Rahman.

“Their training stint in Pontianak will end on July 4 before joining the intensive training at the 1st Division camp in Samarahan,” he said. “We are grateful to Pertina, especially its president Tukimin, for kindly agreeing to cooperate with us.”

He said the Indonesian national boxers will be sparring with our boxers during the three-week training stint.

Four coaches – Mohd Herman Musa, Wilbur Andogan, Robin Tiong and Angchoi – are accompanying the state boxing team.

“I hope all the boxers will use this chance to further improve their skills and stamina before the Sukma competition,” said Rahman.

The boxers are Syafiq Hazziman Abdullah Jefri, Alexson Tiong, As Sufi Azli, Darith Darianja Muiim, Mustaza Sidi, Denoven Hugo Semon, Muhammad Zikri As-Siddiq Hedzir and Ericson Ray Edward.
