Businessman denies cheating man of RM116,000 tyres, sport rims

KOTA KINABALU: A businessman claimed trial at the Magistrate’s Court here yesterday to 13 counts of cheating a man involving RM116,000 for the purchase of tyres and sport rims.

Suwardy Talib, 42, who appeared before magistrate Cindy Mc Juce Balitus, was charged under Section 420 of the Penal Code which carries a maximum jail of 10 years or with a fine and also liable to whipping, upon conviction.

On the first to the 13 counts, the accused, who was represented by counsel P.J Perira, had allegedly cheated the man by giving the victim 13 cheques of deactivated bank account for payment of 50 rims and 850 tyres in front of tyre shop at Jalan Tuaran bypass on November 11, 2014.

The court fixed July 11 and 12 this year for case management and released the accused on RM10,500 bail with two local sureties, pending disposal of the case.

In a separate case, a man was charged in the same court with consuming syabu.

No plea was recorded from Kennedy Voon, who faces a charge under Section 15 (1) (a) of the Dangerous Drugs Act (DDA) 1952, punishable under Section 39C (1) (b) DDA 1952 which carries a jail term of not less than five years and not exceeding seven years and whipping not more than three strokes.

The accused’s case will be mentioned again on July 11 this year and he was granted a RM3,000 bail with two local sureties.
