SIBU: A 40-year-old man was yesterday sentenced by a Magistrate’s court here to 13 months’ jail for misbehaviour and damaging government’s property.

Yong Pik Ing was sentenced to 30 days’ jail for acting aggressively and threatening to hurt himself and other detainees while under detention at 6.30pm on May 21 at a Central Police Station cell.

His act violated Section 90 of the Police Act 1967.

The court sentenced him to one year’s jail for damaging government property by ripping out the wooden floor of a police lock-up.

The sentences are to run concurrently.

The court was earlier told that while in the lock-up, Yong tried to rip off the wooden floor of the cell.

He acted aggressively and threatened to hurt himself and other detainees.

He was subdued only after the police fired two shots from a Taser gun.
