Nigerian student faces charges of drug possession

KUCHING: A Nigerian student was charged with possessing methamphetamine in the Sessions Court here yesterday.

The accused Ifasinach Dominic Oguzie alias Daminic JC appeared before Judge Dayang Ellyn Narisa Abang Ahmad who fixed July 18 for further mention pending a chemist report.

She ordered the accused to be remanded in prison as the alleged offence is non-bailable.

He was caught in possession of 31.30grammes of the dangerous drug when a group of police personnel detained him in front of a franchise fast food restaurant in Tabuan Jaya here on June 7 around midnight.

It was said he was inside the car where the drug was allegedly found on him.

The accused is facing life imprisonment as well as whippings of not less than 10 strokes under Section 12(2) of the Dangerous Drugs Act 1952 and punishable under Section 39A(2) of the same Act.
