TAWAU: The police strike team here arrested a couple in a rented room at Jalan Masjid Tawau about 12.10am yesterday and confiscated three packets of syabu weighing 155.69 grams from a jacket belonging to the man.

District assistant police chief Superintendent Mustaffa Maarof bin Mustaffa said the woman was hiding behind the door during the operation, which caused the team to be suspicious and carry a search.

Mustaffa said initial reports showed that the suspects, aged 29 and 22, were believed to be involved in drug trafficking in nearby areas.

The duo were brought to the Tawau police station for further investigation under Section 39B of the Dangerous Drugs Act 1952.

The police also seized the room key and a Nokia hand phone from at the scene, Mustaffa told the media in a press conference at the Tawau police station here yesterday afternoon.

“The seized syabu weighing 155.69 grams cost about RM17,000,” he added.
