MIRI: The State Library treated orphans from Rumah Amal Anak-Anak Kesayangan Kami (RAAAK) and senior citizens to a breaking of fast at Pustaka Miri on Saturday.

Its CEO Rashidah Bolhassan said the annual event was part of its corporate social responsible (CSR) activities.

She added that since Pustaka Miri was established in 2002, similar events have been organised at different venues such as mosque and surau in the village as well as at Hamidah Welfare Complex.

“We want the community to be aware that Pustaka is not only a place for them to borrow books and to read as it is also an ideal venue for them to share knowledge and conduct activities for lifelong learning.”

She also informed that Pustaka Negeri Sarawak (State Library) has been appointed as state secretariat for Malaysia Al-Quran Recital programme.

She said the programme is under the initiative of Malaysia Public Libraries Director Council (MAPAM).

“The first ever programme being organised in the country would be held simultaneously throughout the country on June 29 at 10am. In this programme, the participants would be given one hour to recite the Al-Quran together.”

Later at the same function, regional manager of Pustaka Miri Salina Zawawi presented Raya contributions to 32 orphans and 20 senior citizens here.

After breaking of fast, the event continued with Isyak and terawih prayers.
