KUCHING: The Yogathon Challenge 2016 organised by Kuching Art of Living (AoL) Centre yesterday drew around 300 enthusiasts, practitioners and even a good number of beginners – its highest participation to date.

The State Youth and Sports Complex auditorium which served as the venue was packed from end to end with yoga mats.

Participants from various yoga studios around Kuching came with the aim of completing 108 sun salutations or Surya Namaskar poses.

Yesterday marked the fourth year that the challenge has been held.

According to organising chairperson Chan Mei Yun, the Surya Namaskar is a basic but complete pose that everyone knows and which beginners can easily grasp.

However, it is still a test of endurance for the more experienced practitioners to complete 54 sets (108 rounds).

The money raised from this year’s event will go to Green Earth Project – an initiative under Art of Living to help

the environment by planting trees.

The Art of Living Foundation was founded in 1982 by Sri Sri Ravi Shankar.

It is one of the largest international humanitarian organisations in the world with social projects in more than 150 countries.
