PUTRAJAYA: Deputy Prime Minister Datuk Seri Dr Ahmad Zahid Hamidi hopes enforcement agencies understand the task of the media and not misinterpret the news reports that may not meet their requirement.

Ahmad Zahid, who is also Home Minister, said in this borderless world, the media’s effort, including social media, was to provide coverage and exposure on enforcement agencies to create public awareness.

He said coverage provided to enforcement agencies had also given various accolades on the success that had been attained but sometimes the media also reported otherwise.

“This is not meant to be negative but to remind us to act in accordance to the prescribed procedures. But sometimes good writings are misinterpreted by the people.

“I think there is no intention for the media or enforcement to point fingers at one another and instead focus on their respective tasks to be understood,” he said when speaking to 1,000 guests attending the breaking of fast with the  police and media at his official residence, Sri Satri here yesterday.

Among the guests were Deputy Home Ministers, Datuk Nur Jazlan Mohamed and Masir Kujat; Inspector General of Police Tan Sri Khalid Abu Bakar; Home Ministry’s secretary general Datuk Seri Alwi Ibrahim; Malaysian News Agency (Bernama) chairman Datuk Seri Azman Ujang; Bernama general manager Datuk Zulkefli Salleh and heads of media organisations.

Ahmad Zahid said the breaking of fast between the police and main media stakeholders was held to further enhance the ties between them, especially for the coming Hari Raya Aidilfitri.

“As the person responsible for security matters, I have to look after the enforcement agencies and, at the same time, I have to take care of my media friends to get news coverage,” he said.

“I hope we will have better chemistry in whatever we are facing in future,” he said.

At the event, Ahmad Zahid and his wife, Datin Seri Hamidah Khamis also handed over donations to 101 students and teachers from the Maahad Tahfiz Akademi Iqra, Kajang. — Bernama
