KUALA LUMPUR: A man shot and injured two motorists as they waited for the lights at the intersection of the main road with Sunway Batu Caves at about noon yesterday, police said.

Gombak Police chief ACP Ali Ahmad said the motorists, aged 30 and 34, were injured in the cheeks and head.

He said eye-witnesses said a man alighted from a car and went up to a yellow Proton Satria car, opened the driver’s door and fired a pistol at the driver.

“Then, the man went to a white Suzuki car, opened the driver’s door and opened fire at the driver,” he said.

The assailant and his accomplice then sped off in their car towards the Middle Ring Road 2, he told Bernama.

Ali said police knew the identity of the suspects and were on the hunt for them, and were also investigating the motive for the shooting.

He said the injured motorists were sent to the Selayang Hospital.

An employee of a business outlet said the driver of the Proton Satria car sought the help of the public to contact a friend.

“After the gunman fled, the motorist alighted from his car and sought help by gesturing with his hands as he was injured in the mouth. The other victim drove his car to a petrol station about 100 metres away,” he said.

Another eye-witness said he heard what sounded like three exploding fire crackers. – Bernama

“I did not think any shooting could have taken place at such a busy road. It happened so fast. I was unable to see the suspect clearly,” he said. — Bernama
