KUALA LUMPUR: Datuk Seri Najib Tun Razak said yesterday Muslims should appreciate the contents of the Quran which teaches about avoiding discord and strife which are harmful and managing differences of opinion with tact.

The Prime Minister said they must take advantage of the holy month of Ramadan to renew their determination to bridge the differences in society.

In a message in conjunction with Nuzul Quran tomorrow, Najib said: “We recognise there are differences in our society but we also share a lot of interests and aspirations together.

“Whatever our differences, if we are prepared to be open-minded and hold fast to religious values, traditions and cultures as well as respect the nation system that we have practised, insya-Allah (God willing) we will excel.”

Meanwhile, writing in his blog, www.najibrazak.com, Najib said material development was not the sole aim and focus of the government because it also looked into the development of values. He said the development of values and the self was always a priority and the true determinant of economic and social progress.

Najib urged Muslims to make the most of the remaining days of Ramadan.

“May we be blessed with good health and strength to enhance our worship of the Almighty without neglecting our duties and responsibilities,” he said. — Bernama
